Gaetana Tiziana Iannone

Abstract

Abstract

In the current scenario marked by geopolitical, humanitarian, and post-pandemic crises, pedagogy is called to assume new responsibilities and to develop the “keys to the future” identified by Gardner (2006). These crisis contexts challenge pedagogical discourse at both systemic and projectual levels (Annacontini, 2017). The growing awareness of a “community of destiny” and of global citizenship (Morin, 2015; Balducci, 2024) requires recognizing global interdependence and addressing shared threats. Starting from the construct of the unexpected (Morin, 2015) and critiquing the paradigm of simplification (Morin, 2021), an urgent need emerges for a metamorphosis grounded in reliance and complex thinking (Morin, 2011). This orientation resonates with Futures Studies and Futures Literacy (Miller, 2018; Barbieri Masini, 2023), which promote the use of the future as a cognitive and anticipatory resource. The paper aims to translate UNESCO’s guidelines (International Commission on the Futures of Education, 2023) into a pedagogical framework for designing sustainable, just, and inclusive futures, strengthening the transformative role of educational professionals.
