La democrazia come educazione e l’epoca della post-verità
Abstract
In the light of some recent events (e.g. the US elections), the paper engages with the dangers to which democracy is exposed – due to the kind of political debate that social media and contemporary technology foster – and with the much needed educational responses to a changed historical scenario. Against this backdrop the Deweyan stance of understanding democracy as education is investigated, especially in reference to the notion of communication and with an emphasis on the role that the method of inquiry (as opposed to that of discussion) should assume within educational practice in order to keep the democratic project alive.
Riassunto: Alla luce di recenti eventi quali le elezioni presidenziali statunitensi, il contributo affronta, da un lato, la questione dei pericoli cui la democrazia è esposta a causa del tipo di dibattito politico favorito dai social media e dalle moderne tecnologie e, dall’altro, quella delle necessarie risposte pedagogiche rispetto a uno scenario storico mutato. In tal orizzonte si esplora la posizione deweyana che intende la democrazia come educazione, soprattutto con riferimento alla nozione di comunicazione e con un accento sul ruolo che il metodo dell’indagine (in quanto opposto a quello della discussione) deve assumere all’interno delle pratiche educative al fine di mantenere vivo il progetto democratico.
