CARTOGRAFIA DELLE PRATICHE DI MUTUO SOCCORSO E AUTOGOVERNO A NAPOLI/CARTOGRAPHY OF MUTUAL RESCUE PRACTICES AND SELF-GOVERNMENT IN NAPLES

Fabrizio Greco

Abstract

This paper examines self-government and mutualistic practices in Naples organized by social movements. Because of the neoliberal policies, the rise of inequality, the unsustainability of forms of social protection and a myriad of expulsion processes from urban areas (Sassen 2015), Neapolitan social movements develop new types of urban conflicts, from the management of common goods to pushing the local institutions to try out new forms of political participation and self-organized practices for abandoned public properties. The article concentrates, in particular, on the mapping of social activities in occupied spaces; self-organized medical services; after-school and recreational activities for children; movements for the right to housing and the right to the City.
