Abstract
The article explores the testimonies and professionalization processes of LGBTQIA+ associations in Italy, with particular attention to their role in developing local care services during the HIV/AIDS pandemic. Based on a qualitative approach, drawing on interviews and narrative materials, the research reconstructs the practices of assistance and recognition strategies that enabled associations to become key actors in local welfare. Findings highlight the transition from spontaneous activism to structured services, capable of integrating professional competences with community-based sensitivities and show how these trajectories contributed to redefining the relationship between social movements and institutions.
