Invecchiare lavorando. Il caso dei lavoratori migranti senior in Italia/Growing Older at Work: The Case of Senior Migrant Workers in Italy
Abstract
The phenomenon of the ageing of migrants in Italy is a relatively new development. In recent years, there has been a steady increase in the number of migrants over the age of 60. However, from a scientific point of view, this phenomenon remains relatively under-researched. European statistics demonstrate that the ageing process of migrants in Italy is characterised by a significant presence in the labour market, well above both the rate of native workers of the same age and the EU average. From this perspective, the article provides insights into the demographic characteristics and size of migrant workers over the age of 60. The extension of the working period is not uniform among all migrants. The present study demonstrates the particular prevalence of this condition among Eastern European women working in the domestic sector and investigates the factors contributing to their prolonged engagement in the labour market.
