Invecchiamento della popolazione e mercato del lavoro: nuovi scenari/Ageing population and labour market: new scenarios
Abstract
The significance of the aging Italian population appears immense as one considers its consequences and transformative capacities, since the process will - and is already beginning to - reshape the social and economic structures of the country. Its effects are pervasive and cross-cutting, impacting numerous areas: from welfare and social insurance systems to production, lifestyle consumption, and, most notably, the labor market. What we are already witnessing - and which will be the focus of this discussion - is a transformation that will fundamentally influence the characteristics and configuration of the labor market, as well as the social security, assistance, and healthcare services that must be designed for a workforce that is increasingly older and actively employed. The rise in the absolute number of middle-aged workers relative to the total working-age population represents one of the main challenges in reorganizing labor systems and welfare arrangements.
Keywords: Ageing of the Employed Population; Active Aging; Welfare State; Working Conditions and Discrimination; Italian Labour Market.
