Geo-localization

Roberto Montanari, Elisa Landini, Aura Tardia

Abstract

Smartphones are equipped with localization features which allow to pinpoint the position of the phone and track its movements. This technology allows applications to deliver precise indications and suggestions based on the environment, to retrieve the device in case of loss, or it may simply allow the users to monitor their own movements. This data is generally stored on the servers of application owners, who employ the adequate measures to keep it secure from unauthorized access. Even though security measures are duly implemented, risks to privacy do not cease to exist.
