Abstract

The present article aims to offer an innovative reading of one of Gertrud Kolmar’s most fascinating and puzzling poems, Die Tiere von Ninive, by focusing on the symbolism hidden behind the portrayal of the different animal classes. The main purpose of such analysis is to investigate the techniques employed in the rewriting of biblical narratives, as well as to examine relevant rabbinic sources which also played a significant - albeit indirect - role in the intertextual reworking of biblical accounts.
