Abstract


This essay focuses on the theatrical performances of two leading contemporary Italian artists, Cesare Viel and Fabrizio Crisafulli, particularly considering their reworking of memory and pain as the crucial experiences conveyed by Bachmann’s work. It first investigates Cesare Viel’s representation of Bachmann's "forgetful memory", which embraces a reconsideration of the categories of time and witness. Further, it examines Cristafulli’s concept of "spaces of memory" as a key for a new approach to Bachmann's prose and poetic works.
