Abstract

After first detailing the concept of “experiment” in George Tabori’s theatre, this essay contends that the playmaker’s work on My Mother’s Courage (1979) marked a significant milestone in his artistic research. At the Munich Kammerspiele (1978-1981) Tabori had the chance to reflect on the core aspects of the theatrical performance, including the different kinds of manipulation that the theatrical medium exerts and the relation between performers and spectators, who build together new stories, new meanings, new realities.
